Revelle Humanities Online Tutor

The Revelle Humanities "Online Tutor" works on all the writing categories by which your instructor will evaluate your paper (see the Writing Workshop). The Online Tutor is based on a fictional 5-paragraph essay by an invented student which the Online Tutor will mark based on what needs improving, and offer tips for improvement. The Sample Paper is based on a fictional prompt: Make and defend a claim about Penelope's role in The Odyssey. (For general writing advice, see Strategies for Good Writing.)

  • The opening paragraph works on introducing your topic, thesis, and supporting arguments.
  • The second paragraph will help you defend your thesis with strong supporting arguments.
  • The third paragraph discusses handling evidence to illustrate your arguments.
  • In the fourth paragraph, we will work on clarifying the expression of your ideas, and
  • Our final paragraph discusses writing effective conclusions.
